A very rare diobol from Metapontion

LUCANIA. Metapontion. Circa 325-275 BC. Diobol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.19 g, 4 h). Head of youthful Karneios to left, with a ram's horn over his ear. Rev. MET[A] Ear of barley with leaf to right; above leaf, owl and grasshopper; below leaf, Π. HN Italy 1601. Johnston-Noe F7.2 SNG ANS 495. Very rare. A lovely issue with a particularly charming head of Apollo. Very light marks, otherwise, good very fine.

From an important collection of coins from Magna Graecia and Punic Sicily, formed in the 1990s and early 2000s.
